By March 2022, all the Indian cities are likely to benefit from the online building permission system. Presently, around 2,500 cities are drawing the advantages of this online facility. This would significantly boost the ease of carrying out business in the real estate sector. This announcement was made on Thursday by the Secretary of the Housing and Urban Affairs. The Secretary made this announcement while addressing a real estate conference. Besides, the authority highlighted the fact that the government has already made a sanction for 1.14 crore homes as a part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) scheme. This is an effort to achieve the ‘Housing for All’ mission in the country. The government had earlier stated that they are eyeing to achieve this goal by 2022.
Making the process of obtaining building permission online has significantly eased up the efforts. It saves a lot of cost and time for the authorities as well as the applicants. The authorities further expressed confidence that the country would be able to achieve the goal by next March. Eventually, the existing system would be expanded to the rest of the cities in India.
Presently, as many as 19 Indian states and union territories are enjoying the benefit of the infrastructure. In the next few months, the system would be available to all the 36 states and union territories.
Talking about the PMAY-U scheme, the official stated that the government has made a significant contribution, sanctioning around INR 1.14 crore homes till date. Besides, the work has commenced in 89 lakh homes already. Moreover, around 52 lakh homes are already under completion. The official stated that they had committed a sum of INR 1.85 lakh crore for the program. Besides, they have already shelled out INR 1.13 lakh crore. Therefore, the work pending for the remaining homes as a part of the scheme would be accomplished in the next couple of years.
