Introduction

Table of Contents

Moving a step forward in realizing the honorable Prime Minister’s Digital India dream, Reliance Industries Chairman Mr. Mukesh Ambani has opened its doors for everyone with Reliance's Jio 4G Network and unleashed a strong upheaval in the entire telecom industry.

With Reliance Jio, the company is openly offering 4G services anywhere and everywhere in the country at much cheaper prices in comparison to any other prevalent telecom operator. Not just this, the company also announces its decision to make the entire voice calling over Jio 4G free of cost – both national as well as STD, which means that the Jio users will not have to make any payment for all the voice calls made on the company’s network.

Another major announcement is that 5th September onwards, Jio services as part of the company’s promotional “Jio Welcome Offer” shall be available absolutely free of cost for all till December 31st 2016. Under the offer customers will be able to avail free data, calls and SMS for the next three months. This decision was made after seeing the successful results of a prolonged test run where some selected users were given the SIM’s to assess the functioning of the JIO network.

The RJio 4G SIM is easily available at all the retail outlets across the country. The company has introduced several prepaid and postpaid plan options that will imply post the welcome offer. Voice calling and national roaming is free for lifetime and the users will have to pay only for the data used on this 4G network and that too at substantially lower rates of Rs 50 per GB unlike the existing Rs 250 per GB.

Mentioned below are all the important points that a prospective buyer needs to be aware of before opting for RJio network:

1. How and from where to get the SIM:

Reliance Jio SIM cards are available free of cost at any mobile shop or multi brand outlet by following a simple procedure. The buyer needs to fill and submit the Customer Application Form (CAF) along with a valid customer identity proof say an Aadhar Card and passport size photographs. The receipt for the same shall be sent on their email ids or in the form of a SMS on their mobile phones. The company then makes a phone call to verify the applicant’s complete details. Aadhar Card is normally preferred as an identity proof for the eKYC verification which is expected to be launched soon, since it makes the activation process very quick and convenient. The Aadhar Card verification process will help the applicants to get the SIM in just 15 minutes.

2. The handsets:

Now once you get a JIO SIM you need a handset that supports 4G VoLTE to experience the services at the best. Since the company is using only 4G network with VoLTE technology for calling it is mandatory that your existing device should not only support 4G but should also work well with VoLTE technology. The best and easiest way for the same is to either purchase a LYF handset that goes well with Jio SIM. Or in case you don’t want to spend money on buying a new handset or don’t want to part away from your existing one, you can always visit a Reliance Digital Xpress Mini Store or Reliance Digital Xpress Store for viable solutions.

3. Reliance Jio tariff plans:

The USP of RJio is the free of cost voice calls both local and STD and free national roaming for lifetime. The company introduces 10 different tariff plans varying from Rs 19 for occasional users and goes up to Rs 4999 per month for heavy users. The monthly prepaid plan offers a package starting at Rs 149 which offers 300 MB data and 100 SMSes for a validity of 30 days and Reliance Jio App’s and services free to use till December 2017. Under Rs 19 prepaid plan, the subscribers can use 100 SMSes and will get 100 MB data besides free voice calling for a day. Under Rs 4999 plan, the subscribers are offered 75 GB of 4G data, unlimited 4G access at night time with a validity of a month applicable for both postpaid and prepaid users.  A Jio apps bouquet is also offered complimentary to all the active subscribers, a package that’s worth Rs 15000 annually as estimated by the company officials.

4.  Portability on Jio Network:

The customers are free to get their number ported to Reliance Jio though it comes with a 90 days’ time period where you are unable to switch operators after porting in. Since Jio network is still under trial it is advisable to get an additional SIM rather facing troubles later on while connecting with other numbers.

 5. Additional apps and services:

The Company is sincerely promoting its apps and services like JioNet app which allows you use Jio's network of Wi-Fi hotspots, music streaming app, video-on-demand app and many more. All these services are free to use till December 2017, with only a certain data amount of Wi Fi to be included in various plans.

7. Reliance JioFi:

Jio Fi is a 4G device that has an inbuilt Wi-Fi router and a battery and allows you to bring more than one device onto the RJio network. It is a better option for all those who don’t have a 4G compatible handset or who want to use Reliance Jio at home. Available for Rs 1,999 it is easy and convenient to use.

“Affordability is the key for the success of digital revolution’. With this in mind, the company is planning to make its services affordable and accessible to each and every person in the country.
